The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticised Vice President Kashim Shettima for siding with Dangote Refinery in the dispute with PENGASSAN.
In a statement marking World Day for Decent Work, NLC President Joe Ajaero accused Shettima of prioritizing corporate interests over the welfare of Nigerian workers. He called the ongoing violations of workers’ rights a “ticking time bomb” and pledged that the NLC will not relinquish workers’ rights for profit.
Ajaero reaffirmed the union’s commitment to mobilizing and resisting exploitation, emphasizing that “No sacred cows”—no organization or person is beyond scrutiny. The NLC also urged that the principles of decent work—job creation, social protection, rights at work, and social dialogue—must be restored and respected.
