The retrial of former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein on a rape charge has commenced in New York, following a previous mistrial caused by a deadlocked jury.
Weinstein is accused of third-degree rape involving Jessica Mann, with jury selection now underway in a Manhattan court and expected to last several days.
The case was declared a mistrial in June 2025 after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. The retrial will focus solely on that count.
Despite the ongoing proceedings, Weinstein remains in prison, currently serving a 16-year sentence in California for a separate rape conviction, which he is appealing.
The case is part of a broader series of legal battles that followed multiple sexual assault allegations against Weinstein, which helped spark the global MeToo movement.
