Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially obtained the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship nomination form ahead of the 2027 Kebbi State governorship election.
Malami announced his decision in a statement released via his social media platforms, saying he could no longer remain silent over what he described as worsening insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, educational decline, and economic hardship across Kebbi State.
The former minister alleged that the state is currently battling one of the most severe governance and humanitarian crises in Nigeria, citing rising poverty levels, insecurity, and the growing number of out-of-school children.
According to him, more than 67 per cent of children between the ages of six and fifteen are reportedly out of school, while over 88 per cent of children in the state live in multidimensional poverty.
Malami also expressed concern over the healthcare sector, claiming that maternal mortality remains high and many rural communities still lack access to adequate medical services and antenatal care.
On insecurity, he lamented the continued attacks by bandits and kidnappers across several communities, saying the violence has forced many farmers off their farmlands and weakened economic activities in the state.
Declaring what he termed a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance” in Kebbi, Malami pledged to prioritise security, quality education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and economic development if elected governor in 2027.
He described his ambition as a mission rooted in service, accountability, and sustainable development, while calling on residents to support what he called a collective effort to rebuild Kebbi State.
