Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire, Maintains Naval Blockade Amid Ongoing Negotiations

US President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire involving Iran, saying the move is aimed at allowing more time for diplomatic negotiations toward ending the conflict.

In a post on social media, Trump stated that the ceasefire would remain in effect until Iran presents a concrete proposal to resolve the crisis. However, he added that he has ordered the US military to maintain a naval blockade of Iranian ports.

The extension came just hours before the initial ceasefire agreement was expected to expire, raising further uncertainty around ongoing peace efforts.

Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that Vice President JD Vance will no longer travel to Pakistan for what was anticipated to be a second round of peace talks. A White House official said any updates on future in-person discussions would be communicated later.

Trump attributed the stalled talks to internal divisions within Iran, while also noting that Pakistan’s leadership had reportedly appealed for more time to allow Iran to present a unified position. He said the request came from Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Despite extending the ceasefire, Trump maintained that the US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz would continue, while American forces remain on high alert.

He added that the ceasefire extension would last until Iran submits a formal proposal and negotiations reach a conclusion, “one way or the other.”
