LAGOS — The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (Nigeria Association of Women Journalists) has named Abigail Ndisika Ogwezzy as its Iconic Woman of the Month for April 2026, in recognition of her contributions to media education and national development.
The honour, awarded under the NAWOJ Lagos Woman of the Month initiative, celebrates outstanding women who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and impactful service to society. The programme aims to spotlight individuals whose work promotes integrity, professional standards, and empowerment across various sectors.
Prof. Ogwezzy, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, was recognised for her significant contributions to mass communication scholarship and her influence on media education in Nigeria.
Over the years, she has built a distinguished career as an academic, mentor, and thought leader, shaping the careers of students, journalists, and communication professionals nationwide.
Speaking on the recognition, NAWOJ Lagos Chairperson, Jumoke Johnson, praised Ogwezzy’s dedication to academic excellence, public engagement, and advocacy, noting that her work has strengthened the field of communication and contributed meaningfully to societal progress.
Johnson also highlighted the professor’s commitment to mentoring young professionals and empowering women in the media space, describing her as a role model and a source of inspiration.
The association congratulated Prof. Ogwezzy on the honour and commended her continued contributions to education, media development, and nation-building.
