The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Olakunle Nafiu, has advised corps members to remain neutral and avoid partisan political involvement as preparations heighten for the 2027 general elections.
He gave the warning while addressing 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members at the temporary NYSC orientation camp in Gusau, Zamfara State.
Nafiu noted that corps members would be deployed as ad hoc staff for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and must act responsibly as ambassadors of national unity.
He cautioned them against engaging in political discussions or using social media to promote partisan views, stressing that their role is to strengthen cohesion and uphold democratic values.
The NYSC DG also urged corps members to focus on skills acquisition, savings, and entrepreneurship through the SAED programme, noting that it is designed to reduce overdependence on government jobs after service.
He encouraged them to respect host communities and contribute positively to national development, while assuring them of the Federal Government’s commitment to their welfare and security.
