A joint patrol team in Benue State was attacked on Monday by suspected armed herdsmen along the Daudu–Uikohol Expressway in Guma LGA, leaving multiple officers injured and three reported missing.
According to the Benue State Police Command, the incident occurred at 2:19 p.m. during a routine operation involving personnel from various units including PMF, SIS, CTU, NSCDC, and local vigilantes. The team approached the scene of burning houses when they were ambushed by armed assailants believed to be herdsmen.
One police inspector and an NSCDC officer sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital for treatment, while another inspector and two NSCDC officers remain unaccounted for. A coordinated search effort is underway.
This incident adds to a troubling series of violent attacks in the Guma axis linked to suspected herdsmen.
