The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that renowned Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate, will be barred from flying within Nigeria for six months following an alleged breach of conduct at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, announced during a press briefing on Thursday. He emphasised that all parties involved would be held accountable, stating, “The passenger is going to be blacklisted for the next six months from flying in Nigeria.”
Achimugu stressed that aviation regulations are globally enforced for public safety and that no individual, regardless of status, would be exempt from consequences. He also revealed that the agency is contacting the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to initiate legal action against the musician.
When asked about Ayinde’s close ties to President Bola Tinubu, Achimugu affirmed that both Tinubu and Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo are committed to upholding the rule of law.
Minister Festus Keyamo has directed that K1 be placed on a no-fly list pending a full investigation. In a post on his official X account, Keyamo said he reviewed reports and video footage from aviation agencies and concluded that both the musician and aircraft crew violated safety protocols.
He described the incident as a “temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides,” warning that such behavior could have led to serious consequences. Keyamo condemned Ayinde’s actions, stating the musician repeatedly obstructed the aircraft’s movement on the tarmac, likening it to a “hostage situation.”
He added, “This is UNACCEPTABLE behaviour… All airlines, both domestic and international, should immediately be informed of this directive.”
