Goods valued at millions of naira were destroyed after a fire broke out in a commercial building on Somoye Osundairo Street, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, early Tuesday morning.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire started around 1:55 a.m., prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Alausa Command and Control Centre.
Upon arrival, the response team observed active flames and dense smoke engulfing a one-storey building housing dealers in computers and accessories. The large volume of combustible materials accelerated the spread of the fire.
While no fatalities were reported, some firefighters sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
LASEMA confirmed that the entire upper floor was completely razed, destroying all goods stored there. The structure was partially compromised and will require immediate assessment. A multi-agency response—including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police Force—helped contain the fire and prevent its spread to neighbouring buildings.
“All goods and properties worth millions of naira were totally destroyed. Firefighting operations successfully suppressed the fire, with damping-down measures ongoing to prevent re-ignition,” LASEMA said.
