The Federal Government has announced Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in observance of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, as he extended congratulations to Nigerian workers on the occasion.
In a statement signed on April 29, 2026, by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister commended workers nationwide for their dedication, hard work, and contributions to national development.
He emphasized that the efforts of Nigerian workers remain crucial to the country’s growth and economic progress, urging them to continue demonstrating patriotism, productivity, and commitment to their duties.
The statement further noted that the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring a safe and enabling environment for economic advancement.
Tunji-Ojo also encouraged Nigerians to observe the holiday peacefully and use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, discipline, and hard work in nation-building.
