A joint World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF mission, led by the WHO Nigeria Representative, Dr. Pavel Ursu, and the UNICEF Nigeria Representative, Dr. Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef, is currently underway in Kebbi State to strengthen collaboration with the state government on routine immunization, polio eradication, and broader primary health care delivery.
The mission highlights the continued partnership between the Government of Kebbi State, WHO, and UNICEF aimed at protecting the health and well-being of children and communities.
It also seeks to sustain progress in routine immunization and safeguard gains made in the fight against poliomyelitis, particularly amid security challenges in parts of the state.
Both WHO and UNICEF reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that every child is reached with life-saving vaccines, including those in hard-to-reach and high-risk areas.
As part of the mission, the representatives visited Takalau Primary Health Care Centre in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area to assess healthcare service delivery at the community level. The visit provided firsthand insight into ongoing efforts to strengthen primary health care, support frontline health workers, and improve access to essential services for women and children.
During the engagement, Governor Nasir Idris reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for UN agencies and development partners to operate effectively. He also called for continued collaboration with WHO, UNICEF, and other partners to advance shared goals of building a healthier and more prosperous Kebbi State.
