Activities at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) were disrupted on Monday as members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) continued their nationwide indefinite strike.
The unions are demanding a 45% salary increase and full implementation of the 2009 agreement with the Federal Government, rejecting an earlier 30% offer.
Protesting peacefully at the university gate, members withdrew essential services across departments, effectively halting administrative and support operations on campus.
SSANU leaders at UNILORIN said the unions had exhausted patience after multiple ultimatums to the government yielded no concrete action.
They insisted that non-teaching staff—responsible for security, ICT, transport, finance, and other key services—must be included in any approved salary adjustments, noting that teaching staff had already received increases earlier in the year.
NASU representatives also highlighted unresolved issues dating back to 2017, including salary arrears and delayed renegotiation of agreements. They described the strike as “comprehensive and indefinite,” saying all non-academic staff nationwide have withdrawn their services.
The industrial action has already begun affecting campus life, with reports of students trekking long distances due to the suspension of transport and other essential services.
