Lagos, Kano lead as 117 million Nigerians get NIN

As of February 28, 2025, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) had registered 117 million individuals for the National Identity Number.

The latest enrollment statistics from the NIMC dashboard show that 66,281,803 (56.5%) of the registered individuals are male, while 51,079,521 (43.5%) are female.

Lagos State has the highest cumulative enrollment, with over 12.6 million registrants, followed by Kano State with 10.2 million registrants.

According to the report, “NIMC’s enrollment figures as of February 28, 2025, stand at over 117 million unique records. Lagos State recorded the highest cumulative enrollment, with over 12.6 million registrants. Regional figures indicate an almost equal distribution across the North and South.”

Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Ekiti states have the lowest enrollment figures.

Bayelsa recorded 758,111 registrations, consisting of 416,015 males and 342,096 females. Ebonyi had 990,775 registrations, with 537,939 males and 452,836 females. Ekiti recorded 1,143,102 registrations, including 566,229 males and 576,873 females.

Other states with relatively low NIN registrations include Cross River (1,397,233), Taraba (1,768,754), Yobe (1,857,532), Kogi (1,912,382), Enugu (1,946,464), Kwara (2,004,667), and Imo (2,024,423).

On the other hand, Lagos State topped the list with 12,612,334 registrations, consisting of 6,870,915 males and 5,741,419 females. Kano followed with 10,246,055 registrations, which include 5,924,126 males and 4,321,929 females.

Kaduna recorded 6,945,818 registrations, comprising 3,832,083 males and 3,113,735 females. Ogun had 4,926,721 registrations, with 2,567,102 males and 2,359,619 females. Oyo recorded 4,539,340 registrations, consisting of 2,361,100 males and 2,178,240 females.

The top 10 states also include Katsina (4,019,964 registrations), the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja (3,795,690 registrations), Rivers (3,532,787 registrations), Delta (3,198,779 registrations), and Bauchi (3,078,996 registrations).
