‘Ambassadorial Appointments Not for Political Show’ — Foreign Ministry Responds to ADC Criticism

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s criticism over delayed ambassadorial appointments, calling the party’s remarks “alarmist, politically motivated, and misinformed.”

In a statement by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the ministry clarified that Nigeria’s missions remain functional and are led by experienced career diplomats, including chargés d’affaires.

It emphasized that ambassadorial appointments are a sovereign responsibility—not a political tool—adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to appointing envoys based on merit, national interest, and strategic alignment.

The ministry also highlighted ongoing high-level diplomatic engagements with global partners, affirming Nigeria’s active presence on the international stage.
