Jannik Sinner has continued his remarkable form by winning the Italian Open, defeating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in the final to secure a record-extending sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title.
The world number one delivered another commanding performance at the Foro Italico in Rome, becoming the first Italian in 50 years to win the tournament since Adriano Panatta. With the victory, Sinner also completed the prestigious “Golden Masters,” having now claimed all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles—an achievement previously accomplished only by Novak Djokovic.
Sinner’s dominance shows no signs of slowing, as he now heads into Roland Garros on a 29-match winning streak, having also extended his record run in Masters 1000 events to 34 consecutive wins.
Against Ruud, who has been one of the strongest clay-court players on tour in recent years, Sinner overcame an early challenge before taking control of the match. Although Ruud showed resilience in front of a packed home crowd for the Italian, he was unable to secure his first-ever win against Sinner in their five encounters.
The victory strengthens Sinner’s status as the leading contender for the upcoming French Open, especially with key rivals unavailable or out of form.
It was also a successful outing for Italian tennis overall, as Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori clinched the men’s doubles title after a hard-fought final victory.
