NAWOJ condemns alleged sexual abuse of minors, demands swift justice in Kamalu case

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists has strongly condemned the alleged sexual abuse of four minor students by a school teacher identified as Kamalu, describing the act as a gross violation of children’s rights and a betrayal of public trust.

In a statement, NAWOJ said the alleged abuse does not reflect the values of the teaching profession, educators, or Nigerian society, stressing that sexual violence against children remains a serious criminal offence under Nigerian law.

The association called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Women Affairs, and relevant child protection agencies to carry out a thorough, impartial, and speedy investigation into the allegations.

NAWOJ National President, Aishatu Ibrahim, urged stakeholders including school authorities, parents, religious and traditional leaders, civil society groups, and community members to unite against all forms of abuse and impunity.

She emphasized the need for collective vigilance, timely reporting of abuse cases, and stronger child protection systems in schools and communities.

The association also expressed solidarity with the affected children and their families, calling for immediate medical care, psychological support, and legal assistance for survivors.

NAWOJ reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the protection, safety, and rights of women and children across Nigeria.
