At its 2025 National Convention held on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State, the Peoples Democratic Party announced the expulsion of several prominent members, including the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike; Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); former Governor Ayo Fayose; Austin Nwachukwu; and others, over alleged anti-party conduct.
According to an official statement shared across the party’s social media platforms, the resolution was overwhelmingly endorsed by delegates, signaling what the PDP described as a renewed push to strengthen internal discipline and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement read that the expulsions mark a significant step in addressing divisions and behaviours that have hindered the party’s progress.
Reports from the convention indicate that veteran party leader and former Southwest national vice-chairman, Chief Olabode George, moved the motion for expulsion, which was seconded by Bauchi PDP chairman, Samaila Buga. The matter was subsequently subjected to a voice vote by Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum chairman, Bala Mohammed.
None of the expelled members have issued official responses.
However, late Saturday night, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Minister Wike, reacted with a veiled jab. Posting on X, he likened the convention to a social gathering, saying attendees had gone to Ibadan for an early “dirty December,” and dismissing any statements emerging from the event.
