The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 2026 Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026.
The marathon will feature two categories — a 42-kilometre race and a 10-kilometre race — both taking place simultaneously along designated routes.
The 42-kilometre race will begin at Ahmadu Bello Way (by MRS Gas Station) and continue along the entire stretch of the Coastal Road, which serves as the finishing point.
The 10-kilometre race will commence at Durosimi Etti in Lekki Phase 1, passing through Ozumba Mbadiwe, Bishop Oluwole, Akin Adesola, and ending at Sanusi Fafunwa.
As part of the traffic management plan, adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections along both race routes will be closed from 12:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. However, roads will be reopened intermittently as the races progress.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), alongside other security agencies, will be deployed to affected areas to restrict vehicular access to the race corridors and ensure public safety.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured residents that traffic officials would be strategically stationed to guide motorists and minimize inconvenience. He advised Lagosians to plan their journeys in advance and make use of alternative routes and other transportation options where necessary.
