Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was the 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has officially switched allegiance to the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), where he obtained his membership card in Zaria.
Accompanied by close associates, he completed his registration at the party’s ward secretariat in Tudun Wada, formally marking his entry into the PRP.
Speaking after the exercise, Baba-Ahmed criticized the ruling party, alleging that its focus has been on weakening opposition groups rather than tackling critical national challenges such as insecurity and economic hardship.
He pointed out that several opposition parties, including the Labour Party, have suffered setbacks due to both external pressures and internal issues, which he said have reduced their effectiveness.
Despite this, he noted that the PRP has remained relatively stable, attributing this to the party not being a major target of political interference.
Baba-Ahmed also described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as declining, while expressing uncertainty about the future of parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He further alleged deliberate attempts to destabilize the Labour Party, saying this played a key role in his decision to leave.
The former LP stalwart expressed confidence in the PRP leadership, describing it as credible and principled, and predicted that more Nigerians would align with the party in the near future.
