ABUJA — The All Progressives Congress has announced that it will adopt direct primaries across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
In a formal notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission and party members nationwide, the APC stated that consensus candidacy will not be used, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and internal democracy.
Under the direct primary system, all registered party members will participate in the selection of candidates.
The party also released a timetable for the primaries:
- Presidential primaries: May 15–16, 2026
- House of Representatives: May 18
- Senate: May 20
- State House of Assembly: May 21
- Governorship: May 23
The APC assured aspirants of equal opportunity, noting that the process is designed to give every member a direct voice in candidate selection.
