ABUJA — The National Association of Nigerian Students has issued a strong ultimatum to the government of South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians residing in the country.
In a letter to the South African High Commissioner, the student body condemned what it described as persistent targeting and victimisation of Nigerian citizens, warning that patience has run out.
NANS President, Atiku Isah, said the attacks represent a betrayal of the longstanding Pan-African relationship between both nations, recalling Nigeria’s historic role in supporting South Africa during the anti-apartheid struggle.
The association warned that any further attacks could trigger nationwide mobilisation, including economic retaliation against South African businesses operating in Nigeria, such as MTN.
NANS called for urgent and decisive action from South African authorities to protect Nigerians and bring perpetrators to justice, stressing that failure to act could lead to protests and wider economic consequences.
