The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has granted former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai permission to receive medical treatment in Abuja, including dental and eye care, while remaining under supervision of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
According to the ICPC’s Head of Media and Public Communications, J. Okor Odey, the ruling followed an application filed by El-Rufai’s legal team requesting access to medical services outside custody.
The court directed that El-Rufai be escorted under strict supervision to approved medical facilities in Abuja, including Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital, and returned to custody immediately after each visit.
The judge emphasized that all movements must remain under ICPC supervision at all times.
El-Rufai and a co-defendant, Joel Adoga, were earlier arraigned on charges of alleged fraud and money laundering before the court. Both pleaded not guilty.
He was later granted bail in the sum of ₦200 million, with two sureties, while Adoga was placed on administrative bail.
Wednesday’s hearing focused on an application seeking variation of El-Rufai’s bail conditions. After arguments from both prosecution and defence counsel, the court adjourned the case to May 7 for ruling.
