The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists ,NAWOJ has reaffirmed its commitment to social justice and the protection of human dignity following a high-level strategic workshop on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) designed for Health Workers.
The workshop organized by the Special Adviser to the President on Health, Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas served as a critical intervention for healthcare professionals, who often act as the first point of contact for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
As a Special Guest at the engagement, NAWOJ joined key Players across the health and development sectors to address the escalating concerns surrounding GBV in Nigerian society. The workshop provided a robust platform for knowledge sharing and the development of strategic responses to the crisis.
Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas emphasized that addressing gender-based violence requires more than just medical intervention; it demands a unified front that includes policy, advocacy, and community-driven action.
For NAWOJ, the engagement was more than an educational seminar; it acted as a catalyst for new institutional alliances. Chairperson of the Association , Aisha Ibrahim Bura noted that the workshop opened doors for collaborations with organizations and individuals eager to partner with the press corps to advance awareness and advocacy for women and vulnerable groups.
The discussions highlighted the indispensable link between the media and health sectors in the fight against GBV. By leveraging NAWOJ’s national reach, the presidential health office aims to scale the impact of GBV protocols, ensuring that health workers are better equipped to handle cases with the necessary sensitivity and legal awareness.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of urgency among stakeholders to transform the insights gained at the workshop into measurable protections for women across the federation.
