The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has uncovered an alleged child trafficking network operating under the guise of orphanage care in Enugu State, rescuing two minors in the process.
According to the agency, a 51-year-old suspect identified as Thaddeus is accused of selling the children to his uncle, Elies, in what investigators describe as a case of exploitation of vulnerable minors.
NAPTIP said its operatives acted on credible intelligence to carry out a rescue operation that led to the recovery of the victims, who are now in protective custody receiving care and support.
The agency explained that the identities of the children are being protected in line with its victim protection protocols.
It added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider trafficking network and ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
NAPTIP also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities linked to human trafficking.
The case adds to recent nationwide enforcement efforts, including the interception of dozens of suspected trafficking victims at the Abuja airport earlier this year.
