The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced new deadlines for the completion of the 2025/2026 admission exercise for tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The decision was reached during the 2026 JAMB Annual Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja on Monday.
According to resolutions adopted at the meeting, all public universities are expected to conclude their admission processes on or before October 31, 2026, while private universities have been given until November 30, 2026, to complete their admissions.
In addition, polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education are required to finalise their admission exercises no later than December 31, 2026.
The policy meeting brought together vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and key stakeholders in the education sector to discuss strategies aimed at improving and harmonising the admission process nationwide.
The move is expected to ensure greater uniformity in admission timelines, improve coordination among institutions, and reduce delays often experienced by prospective students during admission periods.
The announcement comes amid several major policy decisions unveiled during the meeting, including the retention of 150 as the minimum admission benchmark for universities and the exemption of candidates seeking admission into Education and Agriculture-related non-engineering programmes from sitting for the UTME.
