The World Health Organization Country Representative in Nigeria, Pavel Ursu, has presented the WHO Nigeria Programme Budget 2026–2027 workplan to Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate.
The workplan aligns with Nigeria’s Health Sector Reform & Investment Initiative (NHSRII) and the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), focusing on key priorities such as primary healthcare, universal health coverage, routine immunisation, polio transition, health security, digital health systems, and service quality.
Prof. Pate commended WHO for its transparency and collaboration, noting that the approach strengthens accountability and gives the Federal Ministry of Health clear visibility into WHO’s contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
Both parties also discussed Nigeria’s participation at the 79th World Health Assembly and preparations for the 5th High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance scheduled for June 2026 in Abuja.
