Antoine Semenyo delivered a moment of brilliance to hand Manchester City a 1–0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, sealing a dramatic triumph for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Ghanaian winger produced an audacious back-flick finish late in the second half, brilliantly redirecting Erling Haaland’s cross into the net to decide a tense and scrappy encounter.
His stunning strike proved decisive as City clinched their eighth FA Cup title, adding another trophy to their season following their League Cup victory over Arsenal in March.
The goal places Semenyo among the ranks of iconic FA Cup final scorers, joining the likes of Ricky Villa, Michael Owen, Roberto Di Matteo, and Steven Gerrard for memorable Wembley moments.
Ironically, the 26-year-old forward, signed from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, was born just near Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge home ground in West London.
The victory also ended Manchester City’s recent FA Cup final disappointment, having lost the previous two finals against Crystal Palace and Manchester United, and marked Pep Guardiola’s third FA Cup success during his tenure.
Guardiola, who has now won 20 trophies with City, continues to chase further silverware as the club remains in contention in the Premier League title race.
