The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the results of its House of Representatives primaries, with four serving lawmakers losing their bids to return to the National Assembly.
The list of winners, forwarded by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Femi Nubi, was officially announced by the Chairman of the APC House of Representatives Primaries Committee and former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. The primaries were held across the state’s nine federal constituencies.
Successful candidates include Joseph Adegbesan (Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside), Rasaq Daddah (Ijebu Ode/Ijebu North East/Odogbolu), Funmi Efuwape (Ikenne/Remo North/Sagamu), Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye (Ifo/Ewekoro), and Dr. Toyin Taiwo (Ipokia/Yewa South), among others.
Other winners are Afolabi Afuape (Abeokuta South), Olumide Osoba (Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi-Owode), Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (Imeko-Afon/Yewa North), and Ayobami Bashorun (Ado-Odo/Ota).
The primaries produced significant political surprises, as four sitting members of the House of Representatives failed to secure the party’s return tickets. Among them was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Isiaka Ibrahim, representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, who had sought a fourth term.
Reports indicate that Isiaka stepped down shortly before the contest following internal party pressure, paving the way for Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, a former Ogun State House of Assembly member, who had earlier been endorsed as a consensus candidate.
Other incumbents who lost their tickets include Abiodun Akinlade (Ipokia/Yewa South), Tunji Akinosi (Ado-Odo/Ota), Femi Ogunbanwo (Ijebu Ode/Ijebu North East/Odogbolu), and Adesola Elegbeji (Remo Federal Constituency), who had been completing the term of the late Adewunmi Onanuga.
The APC primaries, held on Saturday, reflected a mix of consensus arrangements and competitive contests, ultimately reshaping the party’s lineup ahead of the next general elections.
