The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that there are currently no cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria, while strengthening surveillance measures following recent outbreaks in parts of Africa.
In a public health advisory released on Sunday, NCDC Director-General, Dr. Jide Idris, stated clearly that “Nigeria currently has no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease.”
The advisory comes in response to reported outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a recently confirmed case in Uganda. Although Nigeria remains free of the virus, the agency said it is intensifying preparedness and monitoring efforts nationwide.
According to the NCDC, it is working closely with key stakeholders, including the Port Health Services under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, to ensure early detection and rapid response capacity across the country.
The agency urged Nigerians to remain calm, avoid the spread of misinformation, and maintain basic preventive hygiene practices such as regular handwashing and avoiding contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals.
It also advised healthcare workers to stay alert and maintain a high level of suspicion for Ebola in patients showing compatible symptoms, especially those with relevant travel or exposure history.
