The Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, has urged personnel of the Nigerian Navy to uphold professionalism, discipline, innovation, and selfless service in the discharge of their duties.
He gave the charge on Friday in Abuja during a special Jummat service held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
Abbas said the responsibility of strengthening the Navy rests on all personnel, stressing the need to enhance operational capabilities to effectively secure Nigeria’s maritime environment and support national security and economic growth.
He called for prayers and continued support for officers and ratings deployed across various operations within and outside the country, noting that they remain engaged in combating insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges.
The Naval Chief also expressed gratitude to religious leaders, families, and Nigerians for their support, while honouring fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.
He described the Navy as a critical pillar of Nigeria’s security architecture, contributing significantly to the protection of oil and gas resources, maritime trade, fisheries, and other strategic economic sectors.
Abbas added that the Navy remains committed to supporting the Federal Government’s security and development agenda under the Renewed Hope framework.
He further assured that the Nigerian Navy will continue to improve its capabilities and remain a source of national pride in the years ahead
