Kaduna ADC governorship aspirant rejects primary results, alleges fraud

A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, Shuaibu Idris, has rejected the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election, describing the process as fraudulent and lacking credibility.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Idris accused the ADC primary election committee of conducting a flawed and compromised exercise that failed to meet acceptable democratic standards of transparency, fairness, and accountability.

The aspirant, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC, said he joined the party believing it would offer Nigerians a credible political alternative.

According to him, concerns over the conduct of the primary election were raised by aspirants and stakeholders during meetings with the election committee before the exercise commenced.

“We raised concerns about the sloppy nature of the process but proceeded in good faith and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Election Committee,” Idris stated.

He alleged that inadequate logistics, poor staffing, and insufficient funding affected the conduct of the election, adding that support staff of contestants were allegedly used to supervise parts of the exercise without proper training.

Idris further claimed that election materials were hijacked in some locations, while thugs and weapons were reportedly deployed during the process.

The governorship aspirant also alleged widespread financial inducement and maintained that he possesses documentary and video evidence to support his claims.

He added that elections did not take place in several parts of Kaduna State, insisting that the process could not produce a credible outcome.
