Ex-deputy gov Gwarzo emerges NDC governorship candidate in Kano

Immediate-past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has secured the governorship ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

His nomination was announced on Friday morning by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, spokesperson to the former deputy governor, who stated that Gwarzo will be officially confirmed alongside other NDC candidates during the party’s affirmation exercise scheduled for the day.

The event is also expected to feature the confirmation of candidates for the State House of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship, and presidential positions under the party’s platform.

Gwarzo brings extensive political and administrative experience to the race, having served as Deputy Governor of Kano State from 2023 to 2026. He previously held two terms as Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area and served as Commissioner in four different ministries in the state.

His public service record also includes membership of the National Assembly Service Commission and chairmanship of the Governing Board of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora.

According to the statement, his long-standing experience in governance and grassroots politics positions him as a strong contender, expected to strengthen the NDC’s electoral prospects in Kano State.
