President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the difficult economic reforms introduced by his administration are beginning to yield positive results, declaring that the nation is stabilising and moving toward recovery.
In a nationwide address marking the third anniversary of his administration on May 29, 2026, President Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices made by Nigerians since he assumed office in 2023, insisting that those sacrifices “have not been in vain.”
The President said his administration inherited severe economic and structural challenges, including unsustainable fuel subsidies, exchange-rate distortions, rising debt obligations, insecurity, declining revenues, and weak public confidence in institutions.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria was spending as much as ₦18.4 billion daily on fuel subsidies before his administration removed the subsidy regime to prevent fiscal collapse and redirect resources to critical sectors.
He stated that the government chose “reform over ruin” and “decisiveness over hesitation,” despite the temporary hardship caused by the economic measures.
Tinubu highlighted major achievements recorded under his administration, including increased investor confidence, growth in the Nigerian stock market, improved public finances, and large-scale infrastructure development across the country.
The President said over 2,700 kilometres of highways and major roads are currently under construction or rehabilitation, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, and East-West Road.
He also noted ongoing rail modernisation projects, improved local refining capacity, increased investments in the oil and gas sector, and efforts to strengthen power generation and transmission infrastructure.
In education, Tinubu disclosed that more than 1.5 million students have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, while the Renewed Hope Housing Programme is delivering thousands of housing units nationwide.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, digital transformation, healthcare, agriculture, and national security, stressing that Nigeria’s future depends on unity, resilience, and collective effort.
“We have not solved every problem, and we are not yet where we want to be. But the foundation for recovery has been laid,” Tinubu stated.
He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united, assuring citizens that his administration remains committed to building a secure, prosperous, inclusive, and globally respected Nigeria.
