The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has placed Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, and several other states on high alert following the outbreak of the deadly Bundibugyo strain of Ebola Virus Disease in parts of East and Central Africa.
According to the agency, Nigeria currently has no confirmed Ebola case, but the risk of importation remains high due to international travel, porous borders, and increased regional movement.
States identified as high-risk include Lagos, FCT, Rivers, Kano, Enugu, Borno, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Taraba, and Adamawa.
The NCDC warned that the Bundibugyo strain has no approved vaccine or specific treatment at the moment, urging health workers and the public to remain vigilant.
Authorities have activated emergency preparedness measures nationwide, including surveillance at airports and border points, isolation centres, and public sensitisation campaigns.
Nigerians are advised to avoid misinformation, maintain proper hygiene, and report suspected symptoms early.
