The Chairman and CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), says the agency has recorded significant successes in the last five years, including:
Key achievements (2020–2025):
- 77,792 drug offenders arrested
- 128 identified drug barons apprehended
- 14,847,000kg of assorted illicit drugs seized
- 14,225 convictions secured
- 32,442 drug users treated and rehabilitated
- 13,735 drug abuse sensitisation activities conducted nationwide
Marwa disclosed this during the NDLEA Commands, Awards and Commendations Ceremony in Abuja, where outstanding commands and personnel were honoured.
According to him, the seizures and arrests have significantly disrupted local and transnational drug trafficking networks, sending a strong message that Nigeria is no longer a safe haven for drug syndicates.
He attributed the achievements to:
- Intelligence-led operations
- Improved inter-agency and international collaboration
- Capacity building and better staff welfare
- Internal reward and motivation systems
Marwa thanked President Bola Tinubu for extending his tenure by another five years in 2025, describing it as a renewed mandate to intensify the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
He pledged that under his new tenure, the NDLEA would apply sustained pressure, advanced intelligence, and tactical sophistication, vowing that:
“There will be no respite for drug barons, traffickers, couriers, or any gram of illicit drug on our streets.”
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to public health, national security, and the creation of a safer, drug-free Nigeria.
