British boxer Lawrence Okolie has returned an adverse anti-doping result just days before his scheduled bout against Tony Yoka in Paris.
The development was confirmed by promoter Queensberry Promotions, which disclosed that the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) notified them of the test outcome ahead of the weekend fight.
The 33-year-old former cruiserweight world champion was set to face Yoka, an Olympic gold medallist, on Saturday. However, the bout is now uncertain following the test result, with organisers considering alternative arrangements.
Reacting to the development, Okolie dismissed any wrongdoing, linking the situation to medical treatment he received for an elbow injury sustained during training.
He stated that he would fully cooperate with the relevant authorities and expressed confidence that the investigation would clear his name.
The incident also led to the cancellation of a scheduled press conference in Paris, as promoters assess next steps, including the possibility of finding a replacement opponent for Yoka.
Okolie, who moved up to the heavyweight division in 2024, holds a record of 23 wins (17 by knockout) and one loss.
