Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj exercise to pray for the peace, unity, security, and economic prosperity of Nigeria during their pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
The governor made the appeal during a one-day seminar organised by the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the Lagos Television Blue Roof in Ikeja.
Represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Amir-ul-Hajj, Ibrahim Layode, Sanwo-Olu described Hajj as a sacred spiritual journey centred on faith, humility, patience, and devotion to Allah.
He reminded pilgrims that the pilgrimage is not a vacation but an important act of worship that requires discipline, endurance, and unity among Muslims.
The governor specifically encouraged the pilgrims to pray for Lagos State and Nigeria during key moments of worship, especially while standing at Arafah.
Sanwo-Olu also urged the pilgrims to pray for national leaders, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking God to grant them wisdom and strength in leadership.
He further advised the intending pilgrims to remain law-abiding and avoid political debates, protests, or unnecessary arguments while in Saudi Arabia, stressing the importance of representing Lagos State positively.
According to officials, about 1,600 pilgrims from Lagos State are expected to participate in the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The state government also announced welfare support measures for pilgrims, including assistance for Ihram clothing, sacrificial rams, and guided religious visits to historic Islamic sites in Makkah and Madinah.
