The Governor of Seyi Makinde has confirmed a tragic development in the abduction of teachers and pupils in Ahoro Dada Community, Oriire Local Government Area, revealing that one of the kidnapped teachers has been killed by the abductors.
Governor Makinde disclosed that seven teachers and an unspecified number of pupils were abducted during the attack. He stated that intelligence reports, including a video received by authorities, confirmed the death of a Mathematics teacher, describing the incident as deeply distressing and extending condolences to the bereaved family.
The governor assured residents that security agencies are making concerted efforts to rescue the remaining victims. According to him, a joint operation involving the military, the police, local hunters, and the Amotekun Corps has been fully activated to track down the abductors and secure the safe return of the victims.
Makinde also revealed that some members of the tactical response teams sustained injuries after encountering improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the kidnappers during rescue operations. He added that the injured operatives are currently receiving medical treatment and are responding positively.
In addition, the governor confirmed that security agencies have arrested at least six suspects believed to be informants and logistics suppliers for the criminal network, while several other persons of interest are being interrogated.
He explained that both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies are being deployed to address the situation, stressing the government’s commitment to ensuring that all remaining abducted victims are safely rescued.
Makinde appealed for calm among residents of Oriire Local Government and across Oyo State, assuring that the government is fully engaged and monitoring developments closely. He also pledged continued updates as rescue operations progress.
