The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Cross River (UNICROSS) chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike following unresolved issues relating to staff welfare, unpaid entitlements, and alleged breaches of agreements by the institution’s management.
In a statement signed by the branch chairman, Dr Patrick Ushie, the union demanded the immediate implementation of the non-financial components of the 2025 ASUU-FG renegotiated agreement, payment of outstanding salaries, promotion arrears, earned academic allowances, and wage award arrears owed to members.
ASUU-UNICROSS also called for improved government funding for the university and the remittance of outstanding check-off dues amounting to N11.9 million.
According to the union, repeated meetings with the university management failed to produce any concrete resolution, with officials reportedly citing inadequate funding as a major challenge.
The union maintained that the industrial action remains total and indefinite until all demands are fully addressed.
