he Nigeria Democratic Congress has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to supervise the screening and selection of aspirants seeking governorship and National Assembly tickets ahead of the 2026 general elections.
According to a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, the committee was approved by the party’s National Leader following recommendations from the National Working Committee.
The committee is tasked with reviewing reports from the National Screening Committee and making final decisions on the eligibility and clearance of aspirants.
The party stated that the process is aimed at strengthening internal democracy, promoting consensus-building, and ensuring the emergence of credible and widely acceptable candidates.
The National Selection Committee is chaired by Moses Cleopas, with the National Secretary serving as secretary.
Other members include Babatunde Ali, Sidi Bomi, Mohammed Zuwo, Dr Danlami Arabs, Fredrick Owotorufa, Teddy Obey, Barnabas J. Ejisi, Adedayo Ekong, Yunusa Tanko, Buba Galadima, Aminu Abdulsalam, and others.
The party added that only aspirants cleared by the committee will be eligible to purchase nomination forms.
It further explained that where consensus efforts fail, direct primaries will be conducted between May 28 and May 30, 2026, in line with its electoral guidelines.
The NDC said the arrangement is designed to reduce internal conflict and promote unity ahead of the elections.
