Dangote refinery slashes diesel price by ₦200

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced its depot price for diesel by ₦200 per litre, lowering the price from ₦1,800 to ₦1,600 effective May 26, 2026.

The latest price adjustment comes amid increased fuel imports into Nigeria, which industry observers say have boosted supply and intensified competition within the downstream petroleum sector.

According to industry sources, the arrival of imported petroleum products at Nigerian ports placed direct pressure on local fuel pricing, leading to the significant reduction.

A spokesperson for the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) reportedly confirmed that the fresh import volumes contributed to the market shift and improved product availability.

The development follows recent debates surrounding fuel import approvals and market regulation in the downstream oil sector, with authorities granting more marketers licences to import petroleum products.

Analysts say the increased competition is beginning to influence diesel pricing positively, offering potential relief for businesses, transport operators, manufacturers, and other sectors heavily dependent on diesel-powered operations.

Stakeholders believe sustained price reductions may continue if fuel supply remains stable and market competition is maintained across the sector.

The Dangote Refinery, regarded as Africa’s largest refinery project, continues to play a major role in shaping Nigeria’s fuel supply and pricing dynamics.
