The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh three-day weather forecast warning of widespread thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall across the country from Monday, July 21, to Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
According to a statement released on NiMet’s official X page, Nigerians across the North, South, and Central regions should prepare for unsettled weather conditions, including storms, moderate rains, and strong winds.
Northern Region:
Thunderstorms and rain are expected in the early mornings over states like Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna. While some areas may see sunny skies with cloud patches, storms and moderate rainfall are likely to return by afternoon and evening across Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna.
Central Region:
Cloudy mornings will be followed by increasing chances of thunderstorms in states such as Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Benue, and the FCT. By Tuesday and Wednesday, moderate rain will continue across Plateau, Kwara, and surrounding areas.
Southern Region:
Morning showers are expected in Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate to heavy rainfall across Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and other southern states throughout the forecast period.
NiMet also cautioned that strong winds may accompany rainfall, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms. Residents are advised to secure loose items, avoid driving during heavy downpours, disconnect electronics during storms, and stay away from tall trees to avoid hazards.
Airline operators are urged to request detailed weather updates for flight planning. Citizens can stay informed through NiMet’s official website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
