The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has called on the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to immediately implement the National Prescription Policing (NPP) policy, warning that further delays could hinder crucial reforms in drug regulation.
In a letter dated August 8, 2025, addressed to the Coordinating Minister of Health, the ACPN described the NPP as a “watershed” policy that could mark a major achievement for the Tinubu administration if swiftly adopted.
The group criticised the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for a “non-committal” attitude and also blamed bureaucratic inefficiencies within the Ministry’s Food and Drugs Department for slowing the process.
The ACPN emphasized the urgency of enforcing proper drug categorisation and ensuring that prescription policies are clearly defined to protect public health.
