Manchester City secured a crucial 2–1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, tightening the Premier League title race and putting renewed pressure on the league leaders.
Arsenal, who have led the table for much of the season, saw their title hopes dented as defensive lapses and missed chances proved costly in a high-stakes encounter.
City took the lead through a stunning finish from Rayan Cherki, but Arsenal responded when Kai Havertz capitalised on an error from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to level the score. However, Erling Haaland restored City’s advantage in the 65th minute with a decisive strike that ultimately sealed all three points for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Arsenal pushed for an equaliser late on, but Havertz missed a golden opportunity, heading over from close range as frustration mounted for Mikel Arteta on the touchline.
The result leaves Manchester City in a strong position to challenge for yet another Premier League title, with a win in their upcoming fixture against Burnley potentially sending them to the top of the table. Arsenal, meanwhile, risk finishing second for a fourth consecutive season.
Elsewhere, Liverpool boosted their push for Champions League qualification with a dramatic 2–1 Merseyside derby win over Everton.
Captain Virgil van Dijk scored a last-minute winner in the 100th minute, heading home from a corner after earlier goals from Mohamed Salah and Everton’s Beto had left the game finely balanced.
The victory moved Liverpool closer to securing a top-five finish, with Van Dijk describing the result as crucial in their Champions League chase.
In other Premier League action, Aston Villa produced a dramatic 4–3 win over Sunderland, while Nottingham Foreststrengthened their survival hopes with a 4–1 comeback victory over Burnley, inspired by a hat-trick from Morgan Gibbs-White.
At the bottom of the table, the relegation battle remains intense, with several clubs still fighting to avoid the drop as the season heads into its final stretch.
