The Labour Party Nigeria has elected Nenadi Usman as its National Chairman at the party’s national convention held in Umuahia.
The development was confirmed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, alongside the announcement of other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including Iheanacho Obioma as National Secretary, Nike Oriola as Deputy National Chairman, and Hilda Dokubo as National Women Leader.
Senator Usman, a former Minister of Finance, had earlier served as Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, a position recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following court rulings affirming her leadership.
In her acceptance speech, Usman expressed appreciation to party members and pledged to reposition the party for greater success ahead of the 2027 general elections. She also emphasized unity, reconciliation, and strengthening party structures nationwide.
She commended Alex Otti for his leadership, while the governor urged the new NWC to provide purposeful direction and consolidate the party’s growing influence.
The development comes as the Labour Party continues to build on its performance in the 2023 general elections and prepares for the 2027 political landscape.
