The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an officer following an alleged extra-judicial killing in Effurun, Delta State.
The incident, which went viral on social media, reportedly involved the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi on April 26, 2026. According to police authorities, operatives from the Area Command Effurun had acted on intelligence linking the deceased to a parcel allegedly containing a Beretta pistol and ammunition.
However, the Command disclosed that the team leader, ASP Nuhu Usman, violated Force Order 237 and standard operational procedures by discharging his firearm, leading to the suspect’s death.
The officer has since been arrested, queried, and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he is expected to face the Force Disciplinary Committee for further action, including possible prosecution.
Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi condemned the act, reiterating the Command’s zero tolerance for extra-judicial conduct and assuring the public that justice will be served.
He also extended condolences to the victim’s family and urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
