Inter Milan have been crowned Serie A champions for the third time in six seasons after a commanding 2-0 victory over Parma at the San Siro on Sunday.
Goals from Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed the win, with Thuram striking just before half-time before Mkhitaryan extended the lead in the second half to confirm the Scudetto triumph.
With three matches still remaining, Inter hold a 12-point lead over defending champions Napoli and sit 15 points ahead of AC Milan, making their title victory mathematically secure.
The triumph marks Inter’s 21st Italian league title and a remarkable turnaround following last season’s disappointment, where they narrowly missed out on the title and suffered a heavy defeat in the Champions League final.
Much of this resurgence has been credited to coach Cristian Chivu, who took charge in the summer following the departure of Simone Inzaghi. Despite being relatively inexperienced at this level, Chivu has revitalised the squad and guided them back to domestic dominance.
Inter now have the opportunity to complete a domestic double as they prepare for the Coppa Italia final against Lazio on May 13 in Rome.
