The political landscape of Gombe State shifted significantly on Tuesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) concluded its senatorial primaries across the state’s three districts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Inuwa Yahaya secured the APC ticket for Gombe North Senatorial District after participating in the direct primaries, where he received strong backing from party members across the wards.
His emergence is seen as a major political development in the state, with analysts describing it as a consolidation of influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
In Gombe Central, a major upset saw former Governor and long-serving senator Danjuma Goje lose his senatorial ticket after 16 years in office. He was defeated by retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ahmadu, marking a significant generational shift within the party structure.
Meanwhile, in Gombe South, Jerry Damara emerged victorious, pledging to focus on infrastructure development and economic empowerment if elected.
The APC primaries across the state were described as generally peaceful, with results forwarded to party returning officers for final confirmation.
The outcome of the primaries is expected to reshape internal party dynamics in Gombe as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
