Atiku asks Tinubu to resign over worsening insecurity

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over the worsening insecurity across Nigeria.

In a statement released on Thursday, Atiku blamed the growing wave of terrorism, kidnappings, and attacks on schools on what he described as the failure of the current administration to adequately protect Nigerians.

The former Vice President expressed deep concern over recent attacks in Borno and Oyo states, where dozens of students and teachers were abducted by armed groups.

According to reports, terrorists attacked schools in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State and Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, abducting several pupils, teachers, and residents.

Atiku said the incidents have exposed weaknesses in the government’s Safe Schools initiative and raised serious concerns about the safety of children and communities across the country.

“President Tinubu has no moral or political right to remain in office while many Nigerians are still trapped in captivity across the country,” Atiku stated.

He accused the APC-led administration of failing to take decisive action against terrorists and criminal groups operating freely in different parts of the country.

The ADC presidential candidate also called for intensified rescue operations to secure the release of all abducted victims and urged the government to strengthen security measures nationwide.

Atiku further advocated the establishment of special courts to handle terrorism and banditry cases and called for speedy prosecution of arrested suspects.

He stressed that protecting lives and ensuring public safety remain the primary responsibility of any government, adding that Nigerians deserve urgent and effective action rather than repeated condemnations after attacks.
