The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, via a post on X, revealing that the decision was unanimous.
According to him, the endorsement was formally declared by GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi, during a meeting held at Lagos House, Marina. He also noted that members of the council collectively paid for Hamzat’s nomination form.
The move signals increasing unity within the Lagos APC as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
This comes shortly after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu publicly endorsed Hamzat as his preferred successor, following a closed-door meeting where the deputy governor officially declared his ambition before party leaders and state executives.
Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat as experienced, loyal, and fully prepared to lead Lagos, further strengthening his standing within the party.
The GAC’s endorsement is seen as a major boost to Hamzat’s candidacy as political activities ahead of 2027 continue to unfold.
